Passengers travelling on transatlantic flights from Ireland yesterday experienced minor delays due to new security checks introduced in the wake of the failed attempt to blow up a US-bound airliner.
All passengers on aircraft heading to the US are now being subjected to a secondary security check at their boarding gates, a spokeswoman for Dublin airport said. This involves a pat-down and search of hand luggage and items bought in the airport duty free.
The new security checks resulted in flights from Dublin being delayed by 30-40 minutes yesterday, the spokeswoman added. Four airlines – Aer Lingus, Continental, US Airways and Delta – operate flights from Dublin airport to US destinations.
