Bangladesh authorities today arrested former prime minister Khaleda Zia pending a corruption case
Ms Zia became the second former premier detained in the interim government's crackdown on corruption in Bangladeshi politics.
Police arrested Ms Zia and her younger son, Arafat Rahman Coco, in the capital Dhaka hours after an anti-corruption official filed a case against them.
A Dhaka court refused bail to Ms Zia and sent her to jail pending trial.
Mr Coco is to remain in custody for seven days while investigators question him.
The military-backed interim government installed in January has vowed to root out corruption and clean up Bangladesh's factional and often-violent politics before holding new elections, expected late next year.
Former prime minister Sheikh Hasina has been detained since July on extortion charges. The two women head the country's two biggest parties and their supporters have frequently fought deadly street clashes.
Ms Khaleda Zia's elder son and political heir, Tareque Rahman, was arrested in March by security forces as part of an anti-corruption drive. Over 170 other senior political figures have also been detained.
