A former religious brother, who is charged with 43 counts of indecent assault on six males was remanded on bail at a sitting of Galway District Court yesterday.
The 63-year-old man, who cannot be named for legal reasons, with an address at Chester, England, is charged with offences which date from September 1965 to March 1969.
The alleged offences relate to six pupils while the brother worked at the Brothers of Charity Centre, Woodlands, Ren more, Galway. Insp P.J. Durkan, prosecuting, did not oppose a bail application by defence barrister Mr Sean O'Donovan.
Judge John Garavan fixed bail on the defendant's own surety of £1,000 and an independent surety of £10,000, remanding him to June 14th.
