Former Liverpool manager Joe Fagan died today following a short illness at the age of 80.
Fagan, the last of the Anfield club's famous 'bootroom boys', took over as the club's manager from Bob Paisley in 1983 and led the team to a treble in 1984, when the side won the domestic league championship, the League Cup and the European Cup.
The former Manchester City defender, who never played for either Merseyside club, announced in 1985 that he would retire after the European Cup final.
But what should have been a night of glory for Fagan ended in tragedy due to the Heysel disaster.
