Niamey - Police in Niger arrested the former prime minister, Mr Hama Amadou, yesterday a day after he was publicly accused of masterminding an alleged plot to kill the president and others, a charge he denied before his arrest.
"I totally reject everything that has been said. I am general secretary of the MNSD, not a warlord," Mr Amadou told reporters shortly before his arrest at home, where his family said he offered no resistance. His National Movement for Social Development (MNSD), the former single ruling party, is now in opposition.
