Kuala Lumpur - Malaysia's former police chief Rahim Noor was jailed for two months yesterday on a charge of assaulting Anwar Ibrahim, but state prosecutors said they would seek a tougher sentence on appeal.
Rahim's lawyers are to appeal against the sentence, claiming it is too harsh.
The attack on the dismissed deputy premier severely embarrassed the government. Mr Anwar was jailed last April for using his official powers to cover up allegations of sexual misconduct. He is separately on trial for sodomy.
