Scotland’s Alastair Forsyth seized the outright lead on the second day of the Malaysian Open in Kuala Lumpur.
Padraig Harrington has climbed the leaderboard in the hope of bettering his runner-up finish 12 months ago.
Forsyth reeled of seven birdies with just the one dropped shot in today’s 65 and has a one-shot lead on 14-under from Spain’s Miguel Angel Martin, who equalled the course record 63.
The record was set by Forsyth and England’s Barry Lane as they shared the overnight lead after the opening day.
Martin was one of 36 players who had to complete their first rounds this morning after play was suspended because of electrical storms yesterday around the Selangor Golf Club.
Harrington improved his position considerably with a second round 67, he shares a top 20 spot on six-under.
Evidence on the card would suggest the Dubliner is still not entirely comfortable with his game in his opening event of the new season. After yesterday's 70 he said: "It was the usual start-of-the-year stuff, and today's good work of seven birdies was diluted by three bogeys".
However, having never finished lower than fourth in his four previous visits to Asia, Harrington will know he can still challenge in the €1.4 million co-sanctioned event between the Asian and European Tours.
