Forty new IT jobs are to be created in Belfast in a £1.4 million investment by a US technology firm.

ACS International Resources Inc hopes to complete the plan by the end of 2003.

Announcing the plans, Enterprise Minister Sir Reg Empey welcomed the plans to establish the Northern Ireland off-shoot as a significant boost to the IT sector there.

He said since being formed in 1992 the IT services support company has enjoyed impressive growth, regularly featuring in the prestigious Inc 500 list of America's fastest-growing private companies.

The firm employs 250 people at its headquarters in Delaware, with another 30 based at its Indian subsidiary.

The cost of its investment in a Belfast base in the Merrion Business Centre at Howard Street has been boosted by a £200,000 Industrial Development Board grant.
