A postmortem is expected to take place today on the body of a man found dead yesterday afternoon, but gardaí do not believe foul play was involved.

It is thought the man, who is in his mid-50s, may have died after suffering a fall in a new house he moved into last week.

Gardaí sealed off the house in the village of Keenagh, six miles from Longford town, after the discovery was made by a neighbour yesterday.

It is not clear when the man - who lived alone - was last seen, but it is thought he may have been dead for a few days.

Garda forensic experts carried out an extensive examination of the scene and it is thought the postmortem will take place in the Midlands Regional Hospital, Mullingar.

The man is understood to be a native of nearby Ballymahon, and he previously lived with his mother.

However, she died last year and last week he took up residence in the local authority housing scheme in Keenagh.
