Gardaí in Letterkenny say foul play is not suspected in the death of a Polish man whose decomposed body was discovered in a derelict building near the town centre on Wednesday.
He was Wieslaw Marian Smaza (34), a married man with two young children from the town of Wadowice, south of Krakow.
State Pathologist Prof Marie Cassidy carried out a postmortem in Letterkenny General Hospital yesterday afternoon. Foul play is not suspected but gardaí say the exact cause of death has yet to be established.
Mr Smaza was reported missing in Donegal on June 26th this year and was last seen in Letterkenny. He came to Dungloe with two friends in October last year where he worked for a time with a local stone mason.
Supt Vincent O'Brien said they have already been in contact with the man's wife in Poland. They are also working closely with the Polish embassy in Dublin on repatriating his remains.
Meanwhile, two Polish men discovered the skeletal remains of a man when mushroom-picking in a field off the DeValera Road, Gortlee, Letterkenny, early on Wednesday evening.
They didn't alert gardaí to the body until almost 24 hours later, because they have poor English. An investigation was launched on Thursday when both men, accompanied by a Polish interpreter, reported the incident at Letterkenny Garda station. The scene was immediately sealed off by gardaí and forensics experts. The body was discovered in a derelict building in a field known as the old Robinson's estate.
