GARDAÍ INVESTIGATING two unrelated deaths in Waterford city have ruled out foul play following the completion of postmortems on both deceased by State Pathologist Dr Marie Cassidy yesterday evening.
The body of Luke Ryan (24) from Clifton Court near John’s Park in the city was found at a house at St Herblain Park, Kilcohan, at about 1am yesterday. Gardaí requested the services of the State Pathologist’s office.
However, a postmortem by Dr Cassidy ruled out foul play in Mr Ryan’s death.
Gardaí believe he may have suffered a cardiac arrest but they are awaiting the results of toxicology tests to establish the cause of his death.
Gardaí have also ruled out foul play following a postmortem on the body of Tina McGovern, originally from Dungarvan, who was found in a house in Grange Cohen in Waterford city shortly after 8am yesterday.
Gardaí had cordoned off the scene but a postmortem yesterday afternoon by Dr Cassidy confirmed there was no foul play.
Ms McGovern had a history of drug abuse and gardaí are also awaiting the results of toxicology tests to establish the cause of her death.
