Four people charged with “aggressive begging” offences have challenged a District Court judge’s decision to refuse them legal aid.

Michael O’Higgins SC told the High Court yesterday the refusal was being challenged on the grounds it was unreasonable, irrational and lacking in proportionality.

Crisan Rostas, Angelica Rostas, Anisoara Rostas and George Afumatu claim they are entitled to legal aid because they are at risk of being jailed for up to a month if convicted.
