THREE WOMEN and a man have been charged in connection with an alleged attack on a stallholder and his son at a midlands market last month.
The charges arise from an incident at Clara market in Co Offaly on September 26th, when the stall-holder and his son were allegedly attacked and damage was caused to a van.
Requesting an adjournment of the case, Insp Kieran Keyes told a sitting of Tullamore District Court that gardaí were awaiting directions from the Director of Public Prosecutions in relation to the matter.
Anne Marie Joyce (34), of Clibborne Way, Moate, Co Westmeath, faces charges of violent disorder, assault, criminal damage and possession of a metre-long wooden stick at Woodfield, Clara, on September 26th.
John Joyce (35), also of Clibborne Way, is charged with violent disorder, assault, criminal damage and possession of a pitchfork during the same incident.
Ellen Joyce (21), of Toorvalley, Moate, is charged with causing criminal damage to a van, while Seprina Joyce (29), of Hazelwood, Coosan, Athlone, Co Westmeath, is charged with violent disorder and criminal damage.
All four of the defendants were remanded on bail of €300 to appear before a sitting of Tullamore District Court on November 24th.
Under the conditions of their bail the man and three women were ordered to stay away from Clara market. Judge Gerard Haughton also ordered that the four defendants not to contact, directly or indirectly, John Myers or Edward Myers of Grange Park in Mullingar, Co Westmeath.
He imposed a curfew between 10pm and 8am on the three female defendants.
