Four young children were rescued from a smoke-filled house in an early morning fire in Dublin.
Thick black smoke choked the property on Oak View Way, Clonsilla, after a small fire broke out in the kitchen.
Dublin Fire Brigade said a woman was outside with one child when crews arrived at the scene shortly after 1.40am.
Thee other children were taken from their upstairs bedrooms by firefighters.
The children — aged four months, three, seven and eight — were all taken to hospital to be treated for smoke inhalation.
The woman, and a man who was also in the property at the time, were not injured. A brigade spokesman said it appeared the adults were cooking when the fire broke out, possibly from a chip pan.
“The house was full of thick black smoke,” he said.
“Three of the kids were upstairs in bedrooms. All four were taken to hospital to be checked over as a precaution.
“The house wasn’t badly damaged.”
Three fire engines, a rescue unit and two ambulances from Dublin Fire Brigade attended the scene. A Garda spokeswoman said officers in Blanchardstown were investigating the minor fire.
