Highest day temperatures will be between 15C and 21C. These are lower than earlier in the week but still well above normal for mid to late May.

By late Monday, it will become cooler as winds veer north to north-easterly. Highest day temperatures will be 15C to 16C at best, with perhaps some ground frost locally at night. Weather will be more changeable, with occasional rain or showers.

The week ahead for holiday destinations:

Eastern Mediterranean (Greece and islands; west and south coast of Turkey; Cyprus): Variable. Best weather probably early on; generally dry and sunny. Cloudy at times later with occasional rain (mainly over mainland Greece and Turkey). Temperatures in the mid to high 20s.

Western Mediterranean (Italy and Mediterranean coasts of France and Spain): Changeable. Warm and sunny but occasionally cloudy with spells of thundery rain, especially over Spain (thunderstorms most likely in the afternoons). Temperatures in the low 20s.

Atlantic coasts of France, Spain and Portugal: Mainly dry with sunshine most days. Light or moderate winds but as they will mainly come from the north-west it will feel rather cool. It will get warmer later as winds shift to the north-east.

Canaries: Occasional cloud but a lot of dry, bright, sunny weather. Temperatures in the mid 20s.
