Four men were still being questioned by police in Derry last night after two separate security alerts caused widespread disruption in the city on Sunday night and yesterday morning.
The first alert started at 8.25 p.m. when members of a police mobile patrol stopped a car carrying the four men on Foyle Bridge. A number of items in the car were taken for forensic tests, among them a beer keg. The bridge was closed for several hours before British army technical officers declared the alert to be over.
