Four held over attack on couples in Louth woods

Four men are being questioned by gardaí in Co Louth following an assault near Drogheda in the early hours of the morning.

It is understood that two couples were injured in the attack, which took place in the Townley Hall area between Drogheda and Slane, after 4am.

it is believed one of the women was dragged from a car and raped. The four victims were treated for injuries after the alarm was raised at a nearby house.

The Townley Hall estate on the banks of the River Boyne consists of a wooded area and carpark between Drogheda, Co Louth and Slane, Co Meath. The grounds are popular with walkers.

The four were arrested after a teenager, accompanied by three other youths, sought medical help at Our Lady of Lourdes hospital in Drogheda town.
