FOUR MEN were killed in road crashes over the weekend in Dublin, Mayo, Limerick and Galway, including two who were driving motorbikes.

A man in his 20s died yesterday afternoon in Limerick when the motorbike he was driving and a jeep that was carrying a horsebox collided. The crash happened at 1.30pm on the main Limerick to Tipperary Road, close to Cloghnadromin in Ballysimon.

Fire crews from Limerick city and Cappamore attended the scene, along with an ambulance unit from Limerick city, but they were unable to save the man. His body was taken to the Mid-Western Regional Hospital in Limerick city for a postmortem.

The man had not been named last night. Gardaí from Roxboro Road in Limerick city appealed for anyone who may have witnessed the crash to contact them.

Seán Lenehan (43), from Gurrane, Belclare, Tuam, died at about 4.30pm on Saturday when his motorbike and a car collided in Galway. The crash happened on a narrow road linking the N63 Galway to Roscommon road with the N17 Galway to Tuam road.

He was pronounced dead at the scene and his body was taken to University College Hospital, Galway for a postmortem. The driver of the car was uninjured.

In north Co Dublin, a 51-year-old man was killed in the early hours of Sunday when the car he was driving crashed into a wall. The incident occurred on the Skerries Road in Rush. There was no one else in the car at the time.

Emergency services attended the scene and he was rushed to Beaumont Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

The road was closed yesterday while the scene of the crash was investigated by a Garda technical team. Gardaí have asked anyone who witnessed the collision to contact them at Rush Garda station.

On Friday night, Declan Regan (23), from Swinford Road, Kiltimagh, in Mayo, was killed when the car he was driving collided with another car on the N5 Dublin to Westport road near Bohola.

The incident happened shortly before 11.30pm and Mr Regan, who was the sole occupant, was rushed to Mayo General Hospital in Castlebar, where he was pronounced dead.
