Four people, three of them pedestrians, were killed in separate crashes on Irish roads today. A man in his 20s died after he was struck by a van in Cork City in the early hours of this morning.
The crash happened at the South Ring Road between the Kinsale Road roundabout and the Sarsfield Road roundabout at around 3.30am.
Gardai at Togher Garda station are investigating and appealed for any witnesses to come forward.
Elsewhere a man in his 50s was killed when he was struck by a car at Glebe, Oughterard, Co Galway at 1.50am. He was pronounced dead at the scene and his body was taken to University College Hospital Galway for post mortem examination.
A 19-year-old woman who was walking at Dooballagh, Letterkenny in Co Donegal also died after she was hit by a car.
And at 8am a car carrying three people crashed on the main Craughwell to Athenry road in Co Galway. A man in his 20s died in the crash while two others were injured.
The four deaths today bring the total of road fatalities for the year up to 196.
