"I had a dope test after the Celta Vigo match in the return leg of the UEFA Cup on March 15th," said de Boer. "And afterwards I was informed that I gave a positive test."
Media reports suggest the test was for the banned substance nandrolone.
"I have my conscience totally clear and I have never in my life taken any banned substance," de Boer said. "I am very surprised because I know I am completely innocent."
