Commuters will be offered free travel on the Luas Green Line in Dublin tomorrow to celebrate the opening of the new extension to the line.

The Cherrywood extension from Sandyford to Brides Glen opens at 11am.

New stops are in place at Central Park, Glencairn, The Gallops, Leopardstown Valley, Ballyogan Wood, Carrickmines, Laughanstown, Cherrywood and Brides Glen.

Minister of State for Sustainable Transport Ciarán Cuffe said the development will bring 26,000 more commuters within 15 minutes walk of a Luas line.

The 7.5 km extension will serve 11 new stops at a peak time frequency of 7-10 minutes. Average journey time from Cherrywood will be 40 minutes.

Separately, Irish Rail warns that track-improvement works at Limerick Junction this weekend may result in 20- to 30-minute delays to services.

There will be some changes to the weekend timetable for Limerick, Kerry and Cork services. Passengers should check with Irish Rail before setting off on their journeys.

On the sporting front, one of the weekend’s main draws will be Munster v Toulon at 3.30pm at Thomond Park tomorrow. Traffic in the area will be heavy.

The Senior Times Over 50s Show takes place at the RDS Main Hall from today until Sunday. Exhibitors at the event, which takes place in association with The Irish Times, include health and wellbeing experts, personal finance advisors, genealogists, travel firms and government and statutory bodies.

Also in Dublin this weekend, the great and the good of the online world will gather for the Irish Web Awards at the Mansion House on Saturday night.

For musical entertainment, a night with singer Jack L at The Venue in Ratoath, Co Meath at 8pm tomorrow promises to be a treat. Tickets are €28.

On Sunday, Bristol’s finest Tricky brings his unique blend of hip-hop, trance, dance and whatever else to the Academy in Dublin. Tickets are €30.

Weather wise, Met Éireann said persistent outbreaks of rain and drizzle will develop in the north and northwest today and extend gradually southwards as the day progresses.

The rain will become light and patchy, followed by mainly dry conditions later in the northern counties. Maximum temperatures will be 10 to 15 degrees.

Tomorrow will be dry and bright with good sunny spells and top temperatures of 11 to 14 degrees, Met Éireann said.
