A Polish woman who was abducted last month from her apartment in Baghdad has been freed and has returned to Poland, Prime Minister Mr Marek Belka said today.

"Teresa Borcz (Khalifa) has been freed. She's here and healthy," Mr Belka told reporters in Warsaw.

Ms Borcz Khalifa arrived in Warsaw on Friday night, Mr Belka said as he introduced the former hostage.

He did not give any details, but said that "officials of different services took part in her release in co-operation with institutions from many countries".

Ms Borcz Khalifa, 54, also did not give any details of how she was freed. "It was a very joyous moment for me," she said. "I feel well, very well."
