A prisoner who was released early under the Belfast Agreement was later shot during a burglary, the High Court in Belfast heard yesterday. Lee Williams (24), Riga Street, Belfast, is charged with aggravated burglary. A Crown lawyer said Williams and another man entered a house in the Shankill area in June wearing masks and carrying handguns, which turned out to be replicas.
The householder fired three shots, one of which hit Williams in the leg. The lawyer said he had been released under the Belfast Agreement and his licence was not due to expire until December 2002.
Mr Justice Sheil released him on bail of £1,500 and ordered him to report to police every day until his trial.
