Freeze causes widespread cancellations

The sub-zero temperatures being experienced around Ireland and Britain have severely affected race meetings

The sub-zero temperatures being experienced around Ireland and Britain have severely affected race meetings. Following a 4pm inspection at Fairyhouse it was decided to cancel the meeting due to the frosty conditions and freezing ground.

Tomorrow’s racing in Waterford and Tramore is subject to an early morning precautionary inspection at 7.30am.

In Britain racing at Cheltenham, Exeter, Catterick, Leicester and Plumpton have all been abandoned. Only the Southwell card has survived thanks to it’s staff who will work all night to ensure that the fibre-sand surface is ready for a 12.15pm start.

The Punchestown meeting cancelled on the 30th December will now be held next Tuesday, 8th January.
