French consumer spending rises

French consumer spending rose 0

French consumer spending rose 0.9 in October, according to data today that showed a rebound in a key engine of growth in the euro zone's second biggest economy.

The promising start to the fourth quarter on the consumption side slightly surpassed economists' expectations of a monthly increase of 0.8 per cent in spending and came as households snapped up more durable goods, cars, and household goods.

The data will reinforce expectations that French economic activity will fare better in the fourth quarter than it did in the third when it was flat.
