French film producer Mr Daniel Toscan du Plantier collapsed and later died at a German film festival today due to a heart condition, the French embassy said.
Mr du Plantier's second wife Sophie was killed in Ireland in mysterious circumstances in 1996. He wed Ms Melita Nikolic in 1998 and had a total of five children from his three marriages.
Mr du Plantier, 61, collapsed in front of the Berlinale Palast where the Berlin film festival was taking place. Ambulance workers tried in vain to revive him.
Among the notable films produced by Mr du Plantier were Madame Butterflyby Frederic Mitterrand in 1995 and Puccini's Toscain 2000. He was also a writer.
