A French couple were robbed at gunpoint at Manor Kilbride in the foothills of the Wicklow mountains as they were resting in their camper van on Monday evening. The couple, who are on holiday, had parked their camper van at Ballysmutten Bridge at 7.30 p.m. when a beige car pulled in front of their vehicle, blocking their exit.
Two men from the car demanded that they open up their vehicle. The frightened couple locked the doors and refused to come out.
But, according to a Garda spokesman, one of the men produced a sawn-off shotgun and threatened to shoot the man if he did not open the door. They then robbed the couple of their money and stole the keys of the camper van and drove off.
The car believed to have been used in the robbery was found burnt out at Kiltipper. It had been stolen earlier on Monday from Terenure.
