An umbrella group representing hundreds of Irish community organisations in the UK has called for fresh action to save the
Irish Postnewspaper, which closed suddenly last Friday.
The Federation of Irish Societies described the paper as “more than a business – it is an institution”, with intergenerational loyalty and international standing.
It said it would encourage potential backers from the business community, the Irish Embassy, parliamentarians and politicians throughout the Irish diaspora to try and resurrect the paper.
Federation chief executive Jennie McShannon said: "The Irish Posthas been our strength, our core. It has bound the community together and provided a much-needed focus."
Ms McShannon said the liquidators had already received several expressions of interest in taking over the title.
