Hundreds of rock-throwinganti-war protesters clashed with police in Khartoum today,setting a police station and a patrol car on fire a day after astudent was killed during a similar demonstration.
Witnesses said police used tear gas to push back crowds whotried to surge towards the US embassy in protest against thewar to unseat Iraqi President Saddam Hussein.
Demonstrators pelted police with rocks, set tyres alight ina number of Khartoum streets and smashed several police,government and privately owned vehicles.
Some of the protesters also vented their anger at thegovernment following the death yesterday of a 22-year-oldstudent protester from al-Nileen University. Police said theexact circumstances of his death were still under investigation.
