Campaign group Friends of the Elderly Ireland has called for the reintroducation of daytime television programmes for the elderly. Recalling presenter Bunny Carr's Going Strongseries, which ran from 1975 to 1983, the group said it had been replaced by programmes for younger people with allegedly more disposable income.

“When Bunny was at his height there were less than 150,000 people aged 65-plus, now there are more than half a million,” said a spokesman. He said retired newsreader Anne Doyle would be “perfect for the job”.
