Certificate and diploma courses in family management and communications are being offered by the Froebel College of Education in Dublin.
The courses have been prepared to help deal with "changes in the modern family, the increase in the numbers of single-parent households, and the reality of grandparent support" and will be of one and two years.
They are geared to parents "who wish to create a pleasant family atmosphere and to adults who interact with children and are concerned about their overall development".
Ms Mary Carpenter, of the Froebel College, said "no manual comes with a baby" and the modular structure of the courses could help parents to get skills appropriate to their child's development.
The courses encouraged discipling through choice and correction in positive ways. The programme is conducted in an atmosphere of free inquiry, based on acknowledged principles of psychological, spiritual and moral development.
There will be an open night for those interested in the courses on Tuesday, September 14th, at the Froebel College, Sion Hill, Blackrock, Co Dublin. Further information is available from Mary Carpenter at 01288 3524.
