Hong Kong's Marco Fu is through to the world snooker championship quarter-finals following a hard-fought 13-7 victory over Scotland's Alan McManus at the Crucible today.
The 25-year-old qualifier led the 15th seed 10-6 overnight but McManus pulled one frame back at the start of this afternoon's session.
But in a match full of safety exchanges, Fu responded with a break of 75 to put himself within two frames of victory.
The world number 27 then edged further ahead with a 57 break. And he was helped on his way when, in the 20th frame, McManus missed a routine brown.
Fu, the first round conqueror of 2001 world champion Ronnie O'Sullivan, made the most of his opponent's error to clinch a deserved win.
He now faces England's Stephen Lee, seeded seven, in the last eight.
