A tanker carrying 1,300 tonnes of fuel oil sank off the northern coast of the United Arab Emirates last night, and the fate of its crew remains unknown, officials said today.

sank about 16.5 nautical miles off the coast of Jebel Ali north of Dubai yesterday afternoon.

It said that the vessel's hold was leaking but it did not give any details about the crew or the tanker's nationality.
An official at Dubai's Jebel Ali Port Authority would not give any details about the incident today but confirmed that his team was dealing with the situation.
