Big Cas Wasn't Irish! That was the spin the publishers ran with when this hit the bestseller list last year. And if that little bit of hyperbole was what it took to ensure this classic sports (auto)biography didn't disappear beneath the tsunami of the Christmas book market, then fine by me. Aside from being well written, disconcertingly frank and often quite funny, one of the things that reflects the effort to set this apart from other sports biographies is that there's not a picture in sight: no "I score FA Cup winner" or "Me with the Pope (gas man)" shots. This isn't about Cas's career as a footballer; it's about being Cas. And that's an interesting thing to be.
