The Princess of Wales memorial fund looks set to receive more public donations in the coming weeks than any British charity did in all of last year. No official figure has yet been calculated but speculative estimates put the total from the UK and abroad in the region of £100 million.
Yesterday, the Prime Minister, Mr Blair, announced the setting up of a committee to examine ways in which the government could take Diana's humanitarian work forward. Mr Blair said there should be a permanent memorial to Diana which would represent in some way her spirit and compassion.
