The jury hearing the trial of Brian Kearney who is charged with murdering his wife Siobhan did not sit today after confusion over when a jury member was to attend the funeral of her grandmother.
Mr Kearney (50) of Carnroe, Knocknashee, Goatstown, Dublin, has pleaded not guilty to murdering Siobhan Kearney (38) on February 28th, 2006.
The jury of eight women and four men were not expected to sit today after the court was told a juror needed to attend a funeral, but this morning Mr Justice Barry White said there had been confusion and the funeral was actually yesterday.
He adjourned the case until tomorrow, which is the two-year anniversary of Ms Kearney's death and Kearney's 51st birthday.
Mr Denis Vaughan Buckley SC for the prosecution said he expected the prosecution case to close tomorrow.
Mr Justice White said he did not know yet if the defence led by Mr Patrick Gageby SC, intended calling evidence.
He said matters had progressed a lot more hastily than had been anticipated. "It seems to me the trial is likely to finish, certainly by the middle of next week," Mr Justice White told the jury.
