There were moving scenes yesterday at the funeral of Aaron Roberts (4 1/2), Cluain Airne, Shannon, who had undergone a series of open heart operations and who received a bravery award for his continued fight for life on National Children's Day last year.
Born with a rare heart condition, he was given only 48 hours to live, but made a remarkable recovery after five major operations at Great Ormond Street Hospital, London. The community at Shannon raised funds to augment that provided by the Mid-Western Health Board to airlift the child to London. Despite complications and a stroke he recovered after treatment and started school at Shannon last September. Last Thursday he had another setback and died on Saturday.
