The funeral will take place in Derry this morning of Mr Christopher "Cricky" O'Kane, who was shot dead outside his home in the Waterside area of the city on Saturday morning.
The killing appears to have been drugs related.
Mr O'Kane (37, who was single, lived at Milldale Crescent, in the mainly nationalist Currynieran Estate in the Ardmore area of the Waterside.
He was shot near his home by four armed and masked men. One of them was armed with an assault rifle.
He was hit six times in the abdomen and died shortly after being admitted to Altnagelvin Hospital. Mr O'Kane was described by an RUC source as having been "extremely conscious about his personal security and safety".
His precautions included close-circuit television cameras above the front door of his home, security lights and three guard dogs.
Mr O'Kane, who had a number of convictions, although none of them for drugs, had been attacked previously.
The killing has been condemned by Assembly members Ms Annie Courtney and Mr William Hays, both of whom believe drugs was the motive behind the murder.
"Irrespective of what anyone may have done, nobody has the right to set themselves up as judge, jury and executioner, and it will be interesting to see what the forensic evidence is in terms of the weapons used in this murder," said Mr Hays.
Mr O'Kane's funeral will take place following 10 a.m. Requiem Mass in St Mary's Church, Ardmore.
