The funeral of Philip Hogarty, the man who died after being struck by a Garda car early on New Year's Day, takes place tomorrow.
A service for Mr Hogarty (19), who was chairman of the Irish Chess Union, will be held at St Thomas' Church in Jobstown, Tallaght, at 11am tomorrow. He will then be cremated in Newlands crematorium.
The official results of the postmortem carried out on Mr Hogarty are not available yet, according to the Garda Síochána Ombudsman Commission, which is investigating his death. However, they are expected to show he died of head injuries and trauma sustained in the incident.
Friends and chess colleagues of the dead teenager continued to pay tribute to him on his Bebo site yesterday. Mr Hogarty, who is survived by his parents Kay and David and sisters Emma and Fiona, was rated one of the best junior chess players in the country.
Mr Hogarty, who was knocked down at 2.30am on the Blessington Road near the Cheeverstown Road junction on January 1st, was the first victim to die on the country's roads this year.
