Mourners filled the Church of the Assumption, Ballyfermot, yesterday for the funeral of Mr Patrick Murray (19), one of the two murder victims whose bodies were recovered this week.

Father Charles Hoey, a family friend, celebrated Mass and those attending included the man's parents, Paul and Kathleen, his brother Paul, and sister Cathy.

Mr Murray's body was found the grand Canal at Newcastle, Co Dublin, on Sunday, followed on Monday by that of his friend, Darren Carey (20). Gardai believe they had been shot in the back of the head before their bodies were taken to the canal. Mr Carey's funeral will take place in Inchicore tomorrow. Gardai investigating the murders yesterday appealed for information from the public about the last known movements of one of the victims.
