St John's Cathedral in Limerick was filled with mourners at noon yesterday for the funerals of Mr Shane O'Brien and Ms Barbara Reeves, the couple who drowned in a swimming pool while on holiday in Sardinia last week.
Father Joe Cussen, a curate at St John's, said the couple, who met at Limerick Greyhound Stadium, had a great love for their families and were well respected by their work colleagues.
Outside the cathedral, staff of Newsom's hardware shop, where Ms Reeves worked, formed a guard of honour to the two hearses. Ms Reeves was buried at Castlemungret Cemetery and Mr O'Brien at Meelick church, near where he lived.
