GAA fans across Donegal have been warned that criminal gangs are targeting empty homes and parked cars during All-Ireland celebrations.
Manager Jim McGuinness and his victorious team yesterday began a tour of the county with the Sam Maguire cup. The celebrations are expected to last days as the team tours all parts of Donegal.
Yesterday the team visited Ballyshannon, Bundoran, Killybegs, Ardara, Glenswilly and Letterkenny.
Huge crowds turned out to see the team, with up to 20,000 packing into the Diamond in Donegal town for the official homecoming on Monday night.
Last night more than 5,000 turned out in Letterkenny to congratulate the team.
However, Donegal’s Garda crime prevention officer, Paul Wallace, has warned fans that pickpockets are operating when crowds gather.
He said they had specific Garda intelligence that gangs had moved into the northwest for a number of days to prey on revellers.
He revealed that 42 wallets had been recovered without their contents when Donegal last celebrated their homecoming in 1992.
