A large fire on an area of bogland just outside Galway city was brought undercontrol by firefighters overnight.
Four units of the Galway Fire Brigade tackled the blaze on the Cappagh Road three miles outside the city on the road to Bearna.
The area is adjacent to large numbers of housing estates and for time overnight it was feared that local houses could be threatened.
The blaze was one of four such incidents fire services across the county had to deal with last night.
