Thirty five groups took part in the Galway parade which was watched by up to 30,000 people who lined the streets of the city. It was reviewed by Cllr Angela Lupton, deputising for the Mayor of Galway, Cllr John Mulholland.
Representatives from Galway's five twin cities - Bradford in England, Lorient in Brittany, and the American cities of St Louis, Seattle and Cambridge - as well as from Aalborg in Denmark, with which Galway is to be twinned this year, were among the special guests on the reviewing stand at Eyre Square.
