Gardaí in Cork have renewed their appeal for witnesses to an incident in the city in January when a woman was abducted and forced to drive for almost 90 minutes before she escaped.
On January 30th last, a woman in her 20s was on her way to work when she pulled into a petrol station at White's Cross, near Cork city. When she got back into her car, a man wearing a balaclava emerged from the back seat. He then went on to restrain her by putting a seat belt around her neck.
The man ordered the woman to drive but didn't give her any directions. After about 1½ hours the woman decided to take a chance and jumped from her car at Knockraha in east Cork. The attacker chased her but eventually turned back, set fire to her car and fled. Checkpoints were set up following the incident but, three months on, gardaí are no closer to tracking down the man. Amid fears that he may strike again they have made a fresh appeal for information.
Gardaí are anxious to speak to anyone who may have witnessed a man acting suspiciously in the White's Cross area on January 30th last.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Glanmire Garda station on 021-4821002 or Cobh Garda station on 021-4908530.
