GARDAÍ HAVE renewed their appeal for information in a bid to catch the person responsible for the "brutal and apparently motiveless" murder of Dubliner Raonaid Murray nine years ago.
Ms Murray (17), from Dún Laoghaire, Co Dublin, was killed in September 1999. The anniversary of her death takes place next week.
The teenager died from several stab wounds to her side, chest and shoulder in an attack near her home in Glenageary, Co Dublin.
Gardaí stress that solving the murder still remains a "top priority". After a similar request for assistance last year a number of people came forward and provided information that helped progress the case.
Raonaid left a pub in Dún Laoghaire at 11.20pm on the night of Friday, September 3rd, 1999 and her body was found at Silchester Crescent at 12.40am, only 500 yards from her home.
Gardaí believe Raonaid was attacked between midnight and 12.10am and there is a period of 20-35 minutes in Raonaid's last movements that have not been accounted for, they said.
According to a Garda statement last night there "may still be some people that have vital information who have not come forward to date". Many of those socialising in Dún Laoghaire on the night of the murder were in their late teens and early 20s.
