A detective investigating the fatal shooting of a 19-year-old man described the delay in the Director of Public Prosecutions making a decision in the case as the longest he had come across for some time.
Det Insp Seán Campbell told Dublin Coroner’s Court gardaí had submitted a file on the investigation into the death of Paul McCarthy (19), from Tyrconnell Road in Inchicore, 11 months ago but had not yet received directions.
He was hopeful he would have a decision from the DPP by September. Mr McCarthy was killed on May 9th last year, following a shooting incident at a house on Myra Close in Inchicore. The deceased was in the house with a number of people when the shooting happened. Detectives are investigating the possibility that a number of young men had been handling the gun at the time and that the shooting may have been accidental.
Three men presented themselves for questioning by gardaí the next day.
Coroner Dr Brian Farrell adjourned the inquest for further mention on September 21st.
