An armed garda was injured today following a Garda operation in Limerick in which four people were arrested.
The incident happened at about 1.10pm when a car was stopped and searched by gardaí in Drombanna, Ballyneety.
During the incident a member of the Emergency Response Unit was badly hurt when he was hit by a car door.
He is was taken to Limerick Regional Hospital for treatment to a serious facial injury.
Two of the suspects received superficial injuries but did not require hospital treatment
The incident has been reported to the Garda Siochána Ombudsman Commission, which is expected to carry out an investigation.
A gun was recovered during the search which was carried out as part of an ongoing investigation into gangland activity in Limerick.
Three men and a woman, who are all aged in their mid 20s, were arrested and are currently being held separately at Henry Street, Bruff, Roxboro Road and Mayorstone Garda stations under Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act 1939.
