The Garda Siochana will work to ensure those using violence to oppose the peace process do not succeed, Garda Commissioner Mr Pat Byrne has said.
He stressed the Belfast Agreement was of vital importance to everyone and said the force would target proponents of violence. "We will play our part to ensure those who are in opposition to the peace process are not successful."
The Commissioner, when asked about the implications of a failure to break the political deadlock, said those were matters for the Irish and British governments, but the Garda would work to ensure that those opposing the peace process through violence would not succeed.
