The Garda are searching for a convicted rapist who absconded in north Co Dublin last Sunday while on compassionate leave to visit his sick mother.
The man from Skerries, Co Dublin had 18 months of a nine-year sentence for rape left to serve in Arbour Hill prison.
He is believed to escaped from prison staff through the window of a toilet in a parochial house. Before being allowed go to the toilet he was handcuffed at all times, according to a Prison Service spokesman.
The Governor of Arbour Hill is investigating the incident.
